LabSentry
Attendance and PC access control for college computer labs. Students check in with a fingerprint, get a PIN for their assigned PC, and the PC stays locked until they enter it.
The problem
Proxy attendance
Attendance is marked by hand or by a roll call that students can answer for each other.
Unsupervised PC use
Lab PCs are used for things they weren't meant for, and nobody sees it happen.
No record
When something goes wrong, there's no way to tell who used which PC, or when.
How it works
Four parts: a check-in kiosk next to the fingerprint scanner, an admin app for records and reports, a lightweight relay server, and a lock screen on each student PC.
Features
- Fingerprint check-in (eSSL and ZKTeco scanners), with punches made while the scanner is offline synced later
- Each PC stays locked until the right PIN is entered
- Skips PCs that are offline or marked not working when assigning a system
- Admin can lock, unlock or restart any PC remotely
- Live screen view of any PC (view only)
- Blocks the Windows key, Alt+Tab, Alt+F4 and Task Manager on student PCs
- Restores the correct locked or unlocked state after a reboot or network loss
- Attendance reports and CSV export
- Emergency unlock on the PC itself, for when the server is down
What a lab needs
- Windows PCs for students
- An eSSL or ZKTeco fingerprint scanner
- One always-on machine for the check-in kiosk and central server
- A MySQL or MariaDB database
We set it up for you. We install and configure the system in your lab and walk your staff through it.

FAQ
How is fingerprint data handled?
Fingerprint data is read by the scanner at your check-in kiosk and stored in your lab's own database. We'll go through the exact handling with your institution before setup, including your obligations under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act.
Can students get around the lock screen?
The lock screen blocks the usual shortcuts, including the Windows key, Alt+Tab, Alt+F4 and Task Manager. Students should use normal Windows accounts, not administrator accounts, so the software can't be removed.
What happens if the server goes down?
Each PC has an emergency unlock for staff, protected by an admin password. Check-ins made while the scanner is offline are synced later.
Is there a cloud version?
A cloud dashboard for managing several labs from one place is planned. Join the waitlist to hear when it's ready.
